Turmeric, Honey & Whole Milk Mask
Turmeric is a spice that is not only used in food but for the body as well. Turmeric is filled with antioxidants, is thought to have anti-inflammatory properties and assist in anti-aging. Women in India cover their bodies with a turmeric mask to be radiant on her wedding day and days after. If your skin is dry from the winter months and in need of some rejuvenation, here’s an easy mask for you to try!
Ingredients:
•1 teaspoon Turmeric
•1 1/2 tablespoons Honey
•1/2 tablespoon Whole Milk
Mix ingredients well. To apply, use a soft brush (old makeup brush) or the tips of your fingers. Spread as even as possible. Let the mask sit for 20-30 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Enjoy beautiful!
Honey-Oatmeal face/body Mask
When I was younger, oatmeal baths and honey were used to stop bug bites from itching. soothe rashes, and/or of course eating, but as an adult, oatmeal is very useful in keeping my glow and skin soft like a baby. Here’s a recipe that I use every once in a while and may pair it with an oatmeal bath on a sunny Saturday morning.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup oatmeal
2 tablespoons warm water
1 Teaspoon coconut oil
1 Teaspoon honey
First add the water to the oatmeal and mix until it becomes a paste. Add more water if needed. Once the paste is made, add in coconut oil and honey. Mix well. If your oil is in a solid state, heat to soften it so that it will mix with the oatmeal paste. Always apply masks to a clean damp face.
For this particular mask I like to be in a stationary position and relaxed. The mask will leave an oatmeal trail if you’re trying to be active. If paired with an oatmeal bath, take about a 1/2 cup of oatmeal and put it in a thin terry cloth towel and tie. As you fill up the tub, set the oatmeal filled cloth in the basin of bath water and soak. You’'ll rise from your bath feeling like a stick of soft butter.
Lemon-Coconut Scrub
Here’s a simple face/body scrub that I use the most in my skin care routine. The lemon will help detoxify your skin of impurities and have it feeling rejuvenated. The coconut oil will keep the skin moisturized and the sugar to exfoliate. Some people don't like the smell of the coconut oil so feel free to add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to help you relax. I’m very serious when it comes to my home spa sessions because I don't get time to myself very often and my constant changing schedule could leave me looking tired, pale, and possibly develop some bumps on my skin.
SET THE MOOD!
Find some nice “earthy” music, light a few of your favorite candles and apply the scrub gently with your finger tips to a FRESH/CLEAN face .
Recipe:
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup coconut oil
15 drops lemon juice
(5-10 drops of fav essential oil optional)
Whipped Avocado Hair Mask
We all know hair products are expensive, especially for us kinky queens. I'm trying to get in the habit of deep conditioning my hair once a week, but I wanted to try a hair mask before I bought one. Lately the whipped avocado hair mask has been my fav. I had everything in my fridge and cabinets the first time. To blend, I used my NutriBullet and doubled the measurements because I have very thick hair. Once I applied the mixture to my hair, my curls instantly began to resurrect. Try it! Let me know in the comments how you liked it.
Ingedients:
1 ripe avocado
1 egg
2 tablespoons Olive oil, coconut oil or jojoba oil
2 tablespoon honey
2-3 drops of your favorite essential oil (optional)
Have a shower cap or plastic bag ready to cover your hair after application and let it sit for 1 hour at minimum,; I like to keep it on all day for softer results. If there’s excess mixture left, I apply it to me or Dom’s face.
