Sensitive skin is characterized by heightened reactivity to environmental factors, skincare products, or even temperature changes. It may frequently feel irritated, with redness, itching, burning, or dryness being common symptoms. Sensitive skin can also be prone to conditions like eczema or rosacea and often reacts negatively to fragrances, harsh chemicals, or exfoliants. It requires gentle, soothing products to maintain balance and avoid flare-ups.
A natural skincare routine for sensitive skin should focus on soothing, gentle, and non-irritating ingredients. Here’s a simple routine using natural ingredients:
1. Cleanser - Use a mild, natural cleanser that includes honey, a blend of coconut oil and/or chamomile tea. Honey has soothing and antibacterial properties, while coconut oil gently cleanses without stripping the skin.
2. Toner - Apply a natural toner like rose water or aloe vera juice. Rose water helps calm and hydrate the skin, while aloe vera juice is soothing and reduces redness.
3. Serum - Use a calming serum made from calendula oil or chamomile extract. Calendula oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and chamomile extract helps to soothe and reduce irritation. *Calendula oil is in our Marigold Mango Butter
4. Moisturizer - Opt for a gentle, natural moisturizer like mango butter, shea butter and/or squalane. Mango butter is light, yet very nourishing, Shea butter deeply nourishes and soothes, while squalane hydrates without irritating sensitive skin.
5. Sunscreen - Choose a mineral-based sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These ingredients provide physical sun protection without causing irritation.
Nighttime Routine: Cleanse and tone as usual, then apply a soothing serum. For extra moisture, use rosehip oil or evening primrose oil both of which are gentle and beneficial for sensitive skin.
Weekly Treatments: Exfoliate gently once a week with a natural exfoliant like oatmeal or finely ground almonds mixed with honey. Use a calming mask made from aloe vera, flaxseed, avocado or cucumber to soothe and hydrate the skin.
